About Salad
Salad is a cultural and performing arts group which was founded in 2009 to pursue a true cultural diversity through communication between local residents and migrants beyond their cultural differences. It pioneers a new area in terms of performance art by holding exhibitions and multicultural workshops, and demonstrating performances to overcome an old-fashioned concept of multi-culturalism.
The major social services that Salad provides include the education for understanding international culture, performance and culture and art education for raising awareness of multi-culture, running Salad Boom, the first multi-cultural theater in Korea, the performance and art academy for migrants, and ‘Salad Artist’ supporting migrant artists. Additionally, it publishes ‘Salad Boom’, the monthly paper for cultural and art communities in multi languages, and distributes it for free to multi-cultural communities and culture and art organizations.
Salad has held total 300 times of workshops and shown about 280 times of performances to around 100,000 audience and has been established as the only art organization that migrants participate directly in creative works in Korea. It has continuously staged more invitational performances that people need to purchase tickets as well as free social services for culturally disadvantaged people so that the performances have become a major business of the theater
Getting the certification of social enterprise from the Ministry of Labor on May 16th, 2014 provides the opportunity for Salad to be a social enterprise specialized in cultural diversity of great standing since foundation of the organization.
Recently, a social awareness of multi-culture has been raised so multi-culture has become a cultural trend and the number of relevant projects has rapidly increased. However, practicable software, that is, contents lack remarkably. Therefore, Salad will make efforts to lead the relevant market by specializing and subdividing businesses as a cultural company seeking cultural diversity to create new jobs in cultural and art industries as well as to make profits.
