On August 9th at 5 PM, Salad Theater held a successful showcase performance of its latest production, Pseudo-Archaeological Translation: The Case of Berlin, at Theaterhaus Mitte in Berlin. Co-directed by Yuko Kaseki and Park Kyong Ju, the performance was attended by an intimate audience of around 20 people.

Drawing inspiration and valuable feedback from attendees, the company is now developing a full-scale art and technology performance, scheduled to premiere in Berlin in 2026.

The work explores themes of solidarity among migrant women across borders and seeks to deliver a resonant social message in the face of growing far-right ideologies. We look forward to how this message will be received and shared within diverse communities.

The showcase performance is the outcome of a creative workshop of the same name. Former Korean nurses who were once dispatched to Germany took part in a performance workshop in which they explored the stories of migrant women currently living in Korea through physical expression.

During the workshop, the participants read and embodied the diary of Tran Thanh Lan, a Vietnamese migrant woman who tragically passed away in Korea. Through discussion and movement-based interpretation, they engaged deeply with her story, translating her experiences not only across language, but also through the body.

As women who themselves had migrated to Germany decades earlier, they also shared personal episodes and cultural challenges from their own lives.

Through this immersive experience, the participants were able to physically and emotionally explore themes of migration, identity, and inner transformation—creating a space for genuine empathy and connection across time, culture, and personal history.

We look forward to seeing how the participants will deepen and expand the narratives of migrant women in the upcoming full production in 2026 in Berlin.
